How Do Partial Hospitalization Programs Work for Addiction Recovery in Washington State?

The Recovery Village at RidgefieldAddiction Recovery

Recovering from addiction disorder is a long and often challenging journey, and even more so if you are attempting to do it alone. By choosing to accept treatment, you are making the best choice for yourself and your recovery.

At Recovery Village Ridgefield, we are committed to providing the best care for Washington State residents seeking treatment for addiction. We are proud to offer all of the levels of care outlined by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, including a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Here is a closer look at PHP’s and the people that qualify for them.

What Is a PHP?

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) falls at Level II on the continuum of care model, in between Outpatient and Inpatient/Residential Care.

PHP is a consistent program that involves many hours of intensive therapy per week. However, it does not require that a patient remain overnight at a treatment facility. Treatment is often 5-7 days a week for somebody in PHP, totaling anywhere from 18-20 hours. This is in contrast to an Intensive Outpatient Program, which usually totals 9-11 hours a week.

What Does PHP Involve?

When you have completed your detox, either at Recovery Village Ridgefield or elsewhere, a qualified professional will perform an intake evaluation to determine what level of care is best moving forward.

If Partial Hospitalization is recommended, we can then work together to develop an appropriate treatment plan tailored to your individual needs. PHPs offer a wide range of services at Recovery Village Ridgefield, including:

  • Access to medical professionals, including nurses, doctors, psychiatrists, and others specializing in addiction recovery
  • Daily therapy
  • Therapeutic recreational activities
  • On-site housing if required
  • Aftercare and discharge planning (a necessary component of PHP)

Therapy Services

PHP offers daily periods of intensive therapy, designed to provide you with support and motivation. Therapy sessions include a daily morning meeting with a community group, carefully chosen to align with your treatment needs and goals. You will also meet medical professionals to discuss medication management, as well as review your progress and address questions or concerns.

Along with individual and family therapy, you will attend daily group therapy sessions, where you will discuss a range of topics such as:

  • Substance abuse
  • 12-step program
  • Grief and loss
  • Sexuality
  • Trauma survival
  • Self-esteem
  • Family patterns
  • Assertiveness
  • Interpersonal relationships

In addition to all this, recreational therapy is also available. Activities such as yoga classes, horseback riding, and regular exercise are a part of the multi-disciplinary approach we take to recovery at Recovery Village Ridgefield. A holistic balance of therapies and activities, combined with a strong support network at home, can help you make significant progress in your recovery.
